Maldivian Democratic Party Announces Date for Presidential Primaries

3 May 2018, Male’: The National Council of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) last night voted to hold party primaries for the 2018 presidential elections on 30 May. On 15 May, the MDP will open nominations for those members wishing to contest the primaries. The primaries will be held according to one-member-one-vote, and voting booths will be placed in locations across the country.
The resolution passed by the National Council last night was submitted by President Mohamed Nasheed. The resolution proposed that the National Council will decide on the course of action in the event that the candidate is prevented from contesting in the Presidential elections.
