The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) would like to extend its deepest congratulations and best wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government and the people of India on the occasion of its 67th Republic Day.

Today we take great pleasure in celebrating the largest constitutional democracy in the world.

The Maldivian Democratic Party also expresses our gratitude for India’s continued efforts to strengthen democracy in the Maldives, and its support as we work to rebuild our democracy.

We take this opportunity to once again reiterate our “India First,” position and to note that it is our relationship with India that has continued to serve the Maldives well. We reiterate that Maldivian foreign policy must always be mindful of this traditional relationship, and of our position as a front line state in Indian Ocean Stability.

As the people of India celebrate this day, we would like to wish our neighbours a prosperous and bright future.
