The Maldivian Democratic Party extends its warmest congratulations to Ms.Aung San Suu Kyi and her party, the National League for Democracy on its landslide decisive victory in the historic democratic elections held in Myanmar in 25 years.

The dramatic and overwhelming victory won by the NLD reflects the enduring courage of the people of Myanmar in their heroic struggles over many years for the achievement of basic human rights and the establishment of a civilian government in their country.

As the people of Myanmar begin their long and arduous journey towards the realization of full democratic rights under a civilian government , the Maldivian Democratic Party, while being fully cognizant of the monumental challenges faced by countries transitioning to democracies, would like to wish the National League for Democracy and its iconic leader the best of success for its future.
