The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has congratulated Canada’s Liberal Party, led by Justin Trudeau, for its victory in Canada’s federal elections.

The Liberal Party won 184 seats in Canada’s parliament, giving it a clear majority.

MDP spokesperson Hamid Abdul Ghafoor said:

“The MDP congratulates the Liberal Party for its convincing win. We look forward to working with Prime Minister Trudeau and his government.

“Canada has always shined brightly as a beacon of democracy in the Maldives,” Hamid added.

“We hope Canada continues to take a keen interest in the Maldives,” he noted.
