President Nasheed’s Legal Team Requests His Transfer to House Arrest Citing Fears Over his Safety and Security While Under Police Custody.

President Nasheed’s legal team have requested the Minister of Home Affairs to transfer President Nasheed to house arrest until the conclusion of his trial.

In a letter to Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Umar Naseer, President Nasheed’s lawyer, Uz. Hassan Latheef stated,

‘Request the transfer of President Nasheed to house arrest due to the maltreatment of President Nasheed from certain Police officers while under custody, and to prevent any further harm to his safety and security.’

It is also of great concern that Police transferred President Nasheed from his place of detention to another location today, without informing his legal team or his family. The Police did not inform President Nasheed’s legal team or his family when he was taken to Medica Private Clinic in Male’ for medical treatment today.
