MDP congratulates PPM, JP and calls for run-off to be held as scheduled

The MDP congratulates its political opposition, PPM on garnering the second largest number of votes and reaching the run off of the Maldives’ presidential election. The MDP also congratulates the Jumhooree Party for securing place with 47,000 votes.

The run-off elections as scheduled by the Elections Commission must be held tomorrow and the party is ready to face polls in order to ensure an elected President is sworn in by the constitutionally stipulated deadline and the people of the Maldives must have the right to exercise their right to an elected Government.

The MDP calls on the international community to urgently engage with the Maldivian authorities to ensure the holding of scheduled elections on 10 November.
