Recent actions of Dr. Mohamed Waheed signify blatant correlations to corruption allegations
The Maldivian Democratic Party directs public attention that the actions of President Mohamed Waheed, following a resolution by the Peoples Majlis to annul the agreement on the border control system, signify blatant correlations to corruption allegations.
The border control system project was signed with Malaysian company Nexbiz by usurper President Dr. Mohamed Waheed’s brother-in-law Ilyas Hussain while he was Controller of Immigration. The Project had been beset with widespread allegations of corruption at various stages. Following the Peoples’ Majlis resolution to terminate the agreement on 25 December, Dr. Mohamed Waheed had cited a private necessity to travel to Malaysia, where Nextbiz’s main offices are located, and had left for that country on 28 December. In conjunction to his departure, he had also transferred the Immigration department to function under the Ministry of Defence, where Dr. Mohamed Waheed’s brother-in-law Ilyas Hussain holds the post of State Minister of Defense.
This transfer is illegal as the Peoples Majlis, in stipulating the mandates of ministries, had determined the Immigration Department to function under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In addition, it is noted that recent rallies held by people claiming to support usurper President Dr. Mohamed Waheed had earlier announced that their so called Unity Alliance would expose corruption connected to the border control system but had suddenly altered their agenda now to harass members of the Peoples Majlis.
The Maldivian Democratic Party directs public attention that these blatant correlations to corruption allegations on the border control system project signed by Dr. Mohamed Waheed’s brother in law Ilyas Hussain necessitated usurper President Dr. Mohamed Waheeds recent unsuccessful attempts to cover up dubious actions related to the project.
