The Tourism Employees Association of Maldives (TEAM) condemns Beach House Manafaru Resort’s decision to ban a pro-democracy TV channel on their resort

The Tourism Association of Maldives (TEAM) condemns Beach House3 Manafaru Resort (a resort in the Maldives operated by Hilton International) o ban employees from watching a local TV channel, ‘Raajje TV’. Raajje TV is a TV channel sympathetic to the pro-democracy people’s movement in the Maldives.

On the 7th of February 2012, His Excellency President Mohamed Nasheed was deposed by his Vice President Mohamed Waheed by a police and a military backed coup financed by tourist resort owners.

Former President of TEAM, Hon Ahmed Easa, a Member of Parliament(MP) said that tourist resort employers should respect the fundamental rights guaranteed to Maldivian citizens by our constitution and must be mindful of the protections offered to employees by our law and international conventions.
