The MDP strongly condemns and calls for a thorough investigation into the serious incident involving the submission of a fraudulent form in the name of MDP Member of Parliament, Hon. Hussain Ziyad of Vaikaradhoo Constituency, leading to the registration of the MP as a member of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).

Additionally, several ordinary MDP members have been unjustly removed from the MDP register and added to the PNC register. Despite repeatedly bringing these concerns to the attention of the commission, no action has been taken so far.

During a meeting with the Elections Commission (EC), the MDP emphasized the recent constitutional amendment that could result in a member of parliament losing their seat if their party affiliation is changed by the EC. The MDP also urged the EC to cease processing forms with forged signatures, following President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu’s directive to increase his party’s membership to 100,000.
