MDP requests Police to investigate recent threats of attacks against members and interim leader

The Maldivian Democratic Party has submitted a request to Maldives Police Service on 18 June 2014 to investigate recent threats of attacks on MDP members and the party’s interim leader President Mohamed Nasheed.

The latest threats against MDP members were published this week on Twitter accounts attributed to alleged extremist radicals purporting to be affiliated to Islamist websites that focus Maldivian readers.

The Maldivian Democratic Party also issued a public notice admonishing perpetrators of these threats to cease and desist from acts of intimidation and terrorism.

The MDP also expressed high concern as the latest warnings of violence pose imminent dangers of harm to a number of members.

The Maldivian Democratic Party called upon the Maldives Police Service and all concerned state authorities to initiate a full scale criminal investigation on perpetrators of these threats and take immediate action against them. //
