The Maldivian Democratic Party condemns the terrorist attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport in Turkey today, which claimed innocent lives. The MDP would like to pass its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed, and wishes a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

The MDP would like to extend its solidarity with the Government and people of Turkey in coming to terms with this barbaric attack, and in their efforts to combat all forms of terrorism and violent extremism.

“For centuries, Turkey, and especially Istanbul has been a symbol of connectivity between people and nations. Today’s attack must be seen as an attempt to undermine that connectivity. Such senselessness must act as a reminder to further strengthen international efforts to defeat the forces of terrorism, and to consolidate efforts promote tolerance, understanding and peace across nations and peoples,” said Hamid Abdul Ghafoor.
