The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has elected Mr. Abdulla Shahid as the president of the party. Mr Abdulla Shahid served as the foreign Minister in MDP Government from 17 november 2018 to 16 November 2023. He was the speaker of Parliament from 28 May 2009 to 28 May 2014.

Deputy Chairperson (Admin) Mr. Ibrahim Waheeed, Deputy Chairperson (Finance) Mr. Ahmed Abdulla’s term started today. Mr. Waheed and Abdulla have served the National Council of party since its formation. Mr. Waheed has been a member and chair of the Election Committee since 2005. Mr. Waheed first elected as the constituency president for Alif Alif atoll in 2005 and Nolhivaram Constituency in 2009 and 2014. He was the province president for Upper North province from 2021. Mr. Abdulla first elected as the constituency president for Haa Alif atoll in 2005 and Baarah constituency in 2009 and 2014. He has been a members of Parliament from 28 May 2009 to 28 May 2014 and 28 May 2019 to 28 May 2024.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has elected Uz. Fayyaz Ismail as the chairperson of the party. Uz. Fayyaz Ismail served as the Economic Minister in MDP Government from 17 november 2018 to 16 November 2023. He was the member of Parliament for l Gan constituency from 28 May 2014 to 17 November 2018. Uz Fayyaz Ismail served as a member of National Council and as a member and chair of the Economic Committee of MDP.

London 10 January 2017 – The Maldives United Opposition (MUO) has appointed Ms. Sifa Mohamed to the post of Deputy Leader. Ms. Sifa Mohamed is the Maldives United Opposition’s Shadow Minister of Education and also serves as Deputy Mayor and Council Member of Male’ City, as well as President of the Women’s Wing, and member of the National Council of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). Ms. Sifa Mohamed had earlier served as the country’s Minister of Education in the MDP government. The Maldives United Opposition highly appreciates the leadership and hard work contributed by former Deputy Leader of the MUO, Mr. Ali Waheed, who resigned on 28 November 2016. The MUO commends his diligent services, especially for fostering courage, vigour and enthusiasm among supporters. The Maldives United Opposition shall prevail in uniting the opposition and working to restore democracy in the Maldives. The MUO also shall exert every effort to attain constitutionally stipulated rights including the Maldivian people’s right to free, fair transparent, credible and inclusive elections.
